The distinctive feature main are the floats allegorical, huge sculptures made of papier-mâché which can reach twenty twenty metres in height.
The builders of the floats are called called "carnevalari". They work for months on end to build build their their giants of papier-mâché.
Often the floats depict political figures or celebrities celebrities famous in a satirical key.
